IPL® PhotoFacial in Boston, MA

Intended for photoaged or sun damaged skin, the IPL® PhotoFacial from Neem Medical Spa, located in Somerville and Winchester, restores skin to a youthful appearance for men and women in the Greater Boston area.

What is IPL® PhotoFacial?

The IPL®, or Intense Pulsed Light, treatment is one of our most popular procedures due to the dramatic results achieved for our clients. Photofacials:

  • Remove sun damage
  • Reduce wrinkles
  • Give the skin a smooth even tone
  • Erase fine lines and blemishes

A series of intense pulsed light treatments (IPL®) dramatically improve:

  • Freckles
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Brown Spots
  • Irregular pigmentation
  • Tiny spider veins
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness, flushing, and Rosacea
  • Wrinkles around the eyes, lips, and forehead

IPL® treatments trigger natural responses in the skin that increase collagen formation over a period of several months. The IPL® skin rejuvenation treatment is quick, safe, and effective with minimum downtime. After treatment, you can immediately resume your normal activities. Six treatments are recommended for the best results.

IPL® treatments can be safely performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands. Each treatment lasts 15 minutes to an hour depending on the area to be treated.

Are Photofacials for Men and Women?

Yes, as with most treatments, men and women will see dramatic results from this treatment.

Are IPL® Treatments Safe?

An intense pulsed light (IPL®) is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. The light penetrates through the skin without damaging it. The light energy is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, thus triggering the body’s natural healing process. In most cases, the lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it.

How Often Can You Get IPL® Treatments?

Treatment can be given as often as every three weeks.

What are the Risks of IPL® Treatments?

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed; brown pigmented spots may appear darker; and capillaries may be more visible. Pigment changes usually fade within a few days but can last up to a week. In very rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur.

How Many IPL® Treatments Will I Need?

For optimal results, a series of six treatments are recommended and can be done three weeks apart. If you are out in the sun without sunscreen, you may develop new sun damage on your skin.  Annual follow-up treatments can help maintain the results.

What Can I Expect During My IPL® PhotoFacial Treatment?

Treatments may vary from 15 to 35 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed, and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation feels similar to snapping a rubber band on your skin. After treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed, and a sunscreen is applied. For sensitive skin, a cool compress is applied following treatment.

What Improvements Will I See After My IPL® PhotoFacial?

Men and women are extremely satisfied with their photofacial procedures. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines. Your body will continue to produce collagen several months after your last treatment. Your skin will improve with each treatment and feel smoother. You will have a more even skin tone, regain elasticity and have a more youthful look.

Who will Perform the IPL® PhotoFacial Treatments?

Our certified aestheticians will do all treatments under the direct supervision of Dr. Rosy Sandhu, our on-site physician.  You can be confident that you are getting the best treatments because our staff has been highly trained and certified in all aspects of laser and IPL® delivery.

IPL® Photofacial for Brown Spots

Photofacials use intense pulsed light (IPL®) to heat the skin and bring sun damage, such as brown spots, to the surface. This process speeds up the cell turnover. Photofacials are not recommended for people with darker skin tones

What is the Cost of IPL® PhotoFacials in Boston?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL®) treatments are usually sold in packages of three to six treatments, although one treatment can dramatically erase sun damage.  Prices begin around $150, depending on the area to be treated and the number of treatments needed.
