PRP for Hair in Boston, MA
At Neem Medical Spa, located in Somerville and Winchester, and serving the residents of the Greater Boston area, we have been performing PRP therapy as a proactive therapeutic option for male and female patients experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth to remedy hair loss conditions.
Our unique hair restoration method, backed by clinical studies, utilizes micro needling technology and PRP stem cell rejuvenation coupled with the power of our special blend of clinical protocols to reactivate hair follicles for fuller, denser hair regrowth. Ideal therapy to maintain hair density, or treat thinning hair, PRP is a potential emerging non-surgical therapy for natural hair follicle stimulation.
Hair restoration with PRP involves drawing a patient’s blood and processing the blood so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain. We then apply the plasma topically and use microneedles to deliver the cells into the skin. We also inject the PRP cells into the scalp. PRP contains essential proteins and your own body’s natural growth factors which stimulate hair growth.
The PRP for Hair Procedure
- Blood is collected from the patient and placed in a container.
- The container is then put into a centrifuge where it is rotated rapidly to separate blood components. The platelets separate from other blood components.
- Platelets are prepared for topical application and injection into the scalp. Local anesthesia is injected around the area to make the process as painless as possible.
- Prior to the actual application of platelet rich plasma, a micro-needling device is used on the scalp to stimulate the scalp’s dermis. This induces micro trauma to the scalp so that the body’s immune system responds by initiating the body’s natural healing processes.
Treatments are scheduled about one to two months apart, and three to four treatments are recommended with follow-up treatments at six months to one year. Some improvement (in reversing miniaturization) can be expected in the first two to three months. The treatments must be continued periodically to maintain any improvement.
Mechanism of Action
For the medical treatment of hair loss, PRP is used to stimulate the growth of follicles, thereby reversing the hair miniaturization seen in androgenetic alopecia or common baldness. The introduction of platelets and white blood cells through PRP can augment the body’s naturally-occurring wound healing mechanism.
What are the Indications for PRP?
In the medical treatment of male and female pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), PRP can be micro needled and injected into the balding scalp to stimulate hair development and growth. Patients with thinning, but not totally bald, areas would be the best candidates.
Do I Have to Use Any Supplements or Topicals During the Treatment Period?
During the length of your treatment period, we provide you with our special blend of naturally topical and oral clinical actives to reactivate hair follicles for fuller, denser hair regrowth.
