About BOTOX®

Searching “BOTOX® near me” on Google may bring up dozens of results, however not every injector has an equal skill set. Injections of BOTOX® by board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Rosy Sandhu can transform your look into a more youthful appearance. For a fraction of the time and expense of a traditional facelift, BOTOX® injections are an FDA-approved treatment that lessens the presence of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. The most commonly treated areas include:

  • The lines around the eyes, known as Crow’s feet
  • The horizontal lines across the forehead
  • The lines and folding of the skin between the eyebrows

At Neem Medical Spa, Dr. Sandhu has had extensive training in all aspects of BOTOX® injections including the use of BOTOX® for the treatment of bruxism (teeth grinding) and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). She performs the injections in all three of her Neem Medical Spa locations in Boston, Lynnfield, or Winchester, MA. Men and women in the greater Boston, MA mainly seek out Dr. Sandhu to diminish the signs of aging and to ease the visible lines, wrinkles, and Crow's feet forming on the forehead and upper face. Ideal BOTOX® Candidates

Generally, BOTOX® is best for smoothing forehead wrinkles, lines between your eyebrows, and Crow’s feet. Fillers are best for plumping cheeks and lips, smoothing wrinkles around the mouth, and filling in shallow parts of the face. If you experience more severe and deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX® and a filler may be a better option.

BOTOX® can be thought of as a preventive, anti-aging treatment even if wrinkles have not yet formed — keep in mind how often you find yourself making facial expressions. It is an effective noninvasive solution if you have obvious forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the brows. It is also a solution for Crow's feet around the eyes. We also see patients for BOTOX® injections to stop migraines, teeth grinding, and excessive underarm sweating.

You are not a candidate for BOTOX® injections if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neuromuscular disorder such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome
  • You have a medical history of Bell’s palsy or had a polio infection
  • You are prescribed aminoglycoside therapy

Procedure Technique

To prepare your face for BOTOX® injections, please avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for three to four days prior to your treatment. Alcohol should not be consumed for 24-hours prior to the treatment. These will all increase your risk of minor bruising in the treated area.

If it is your first time to visit our office in Boston, MA to get BOTOX®, we often perform the treatment within the same day as your initial consultation with Dr. Sandhu. You will be asked to make different expressions using your upper face, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., to help us to plan where the injections will be placed. The face will be prepared and the BOTOX® will be injected under the skin using a fine needle, followed with a cool compress to help lessen swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You can ask for a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it usually is not needed. BOTOX® treatments typically take around 10 – 15 minutes, after which you may get back to your usual day after a short rest.

You should move the treated muscle every few minutes for the first hour after your treatment. Do not exercise vigorously or lie down for at least four hours. Also, do not massage or put pressure the treated area for a minimum of four hours after the injections.

What to Expect

Following the BOTOX® injection, you are allowed to return to your daily schedule, although strenuous activities like exercise should be postponed for a minimum of a day. You will be advised to sleep with your head propped up for at least one night and to avoid touching your face, which can accidentally spread the BOTOX® to other areas. The injected sections of your face can become bruised, swollen, or red for a couple of days, but you should not have any serious or long-lasting side effects. In the majority of cases, it usually takes around one week before the final results of BOTOX® become visible. The results generally last 4 – 6 months. You can talk to Dr. Sandhu about when to make a follow-up appointment at Neem Medical Spa to refresh your results. On average, people need a BOTOX® treatment about three times a year to maintain their results.
