What Exactly is Botox®?

Botox® is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein that works to very precisely relax the muscles in the upper portion of the face. This muscle relaxation is temporary, lasting for four to six months. Without subsequent treatments, the muscles gradually return to their original condition. The injections are administered in a way that does not alter your natural expression and features. We offer these treatments in our Somerville location.

Should I Get Botox® or Fillers?

Generally, Botox® is best for smoothing forehead wrinkles, lines between your eyebrows, and crow’s feet. Fillers are best for plumping cheeks and lips, smoothing wrinkles around the mouth, and filling in shallow parts of the face.

How Much Does It Cost to Get Botox® in Boston?

Neem Medical Spa charges per treatment area. This is determined by Dr. Sandhu during your consultation, and every treatment is individualized. In most cases, the price per treatment area starts at $375 and goes up to $675, depending on how many areas are treated. Neem Medical Spa accepts cash, bank checks, and all major credit cards including Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, and Discover®, as well as financing via CareCredit®.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Results last from four to six months. On average, people need a Botox® treatment about three times a year to maintain their results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Anyone who wants to get rid of or prevent wrinkles is a good candidate for Botox®. Beyond wrinkles, Botox® can lift the eyebrows and keep you from looking “sad” or “tired.”

Who is Not a Candidate for Botox®?

Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not candidates for Botox®. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome should not receive Botox®. Inform your practitioner if you have had a history of Bell’s palsy, polio infection, or are currently taking aminoglycoside therapy.

What Other Issues is Botox® Used For?

Botox® can also stop migraines, teeth grinding, and excessive underarm sweating.

Can Men Get Botox®?

Absolutely! According to a new study in the journal Cosmetic Dermatology, the number of American men getting Botox® injections has skyrocketed 258% over the past decade.

What Should I Do to Prepare for My Botox® Treatment?

Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for three to four days prior to your treatment. Alcohol should not be consumed for 24 hours prior to the treatment. These will all increase your risk of minor bruising in the treated area. Feel free to contact our Somerville location with any other questions.

What Do I Do After a Botox® Treatment?

You should contract the treated muscle every few minutes for the first hour after your treatment. Do not exercise vigorously or lie down for a minimum of four hours. Also, do not massage or compress the treated area for a minimum of four hours after the injections.
